家の近所の使われていない駐車場はブロック塀によって他の土地と区切られています。

車が一台もなくともここが空き地でなく駐車場と言えるのは、地面に引かれた白線がその用途性を示しているからです。深夜3時ごろ人気もないこの場所に立つのは少し勇気が必要でしたが、数時間も立って観察していると初めの恐怖心は消え失せて、自分の居場所のようにさえ感じてきます。

An unused parking lot in a neighborhood near my house is separated from the rest of the lot by a block wall.

Even though there is not a single car in the lot, it is not a vacant lot but a parking lot because the white line on the ground indicates the nature of its use. It took a little courage to stand in this unpopular place at 3 a.m., but after a few hours of observation, my initial fear disappeared and I began to feel as if I belonged here.
